Prepare and Pack Large Appliances for a Safe Move to or from Serbia
Moving large appliances takes more than just unplugging them and rolling them onto the truck. Proper preparation prevents mold, mildew, and mechanical damage — so your refrigerator, washing machine, and other appliances arrive clean, dry, and fully functional. Here’s how Allied Serbia – The Careful Movers recommends preparing your major appliances before relocating to or from Serbia.
Dishwasher
- Clean and fully dry the interior
- Disconnect and drain the hoses
- Leave the door slightly open for one to two days before the move to prevent odors
- Wrap dry hoses in towels and secure them inside the unit
Washing Machine
- Clean and dry both the inside and outside
- Disconnect the water supply and drain all hoses
- Secure the drum following the manufacturer’s instructions or a washer lock kit

Clothes Dryer
- Unplug and thoroughly clean the lint trap
- Gas dryers must be disconnected by a certified technician who can also seal the gas line
- Have an electrician confirm your new home’s electrical supply matches before reconnecting
Stove / Range / Oven
- Remove all detachable parts and pack them securely
- Clean every surface thoroughly — grease attracts dust and can stain nearby items
- Gas stoves must be disconnected and reconnected by a licensed technician
- Electric ranges typically need no servicing before the move
Refrigerator / Freezer
- Empty and defrost at least 24 hours before moving
- Clean and dry all shelves and drawers
- Disconnect the water line, if equipped, and empty the reservoir
- Vacuum the compressor and condenser
- Older models may need motor or compressor bolts for safe transport
- Have the water dispenser or ice maker reconnected by a professional after arrival
Microwave Oven
- Remove and wrap the glass tray in protective paper or bubble wrap
- Pack in the original box or a cushioned carton
- Avoid placing anything in the door opening during the move — it can damage the hinges
- Don’t block the exhaust vent when reinstalling
